The Lake District is one of the most stunning areas of natural beauty in the UK. In 2016, over 18 million tourists descended on the Lake District, looking to enjoy the amenities, the scenery, and the ambiance of this north-west gem. At Brooklands, our serene bed and breakfast near Windermere, we’re accustomed to ensuring our customers get the most of their experience in the area.
The Main Attractions
Arguably the two biggest attractions in the Lake District are geological in nature.
First and foremost is is Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England. The lake is so large it’s almost impossible to picture it; with an overall length of 18 kilometres, it’s total area spans more than 30,000 football fields. Brooklands is located around 15 minutes’ walk from the shores of the lake, so you can explore the area at your leisure. There’s plenty to do around the area; from water sports for guests who love adventure, to the more gentile visitor who can enjoy one of the many lake cruises.
First and foremost is Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in the Southern Fells range. At an elevation of 978 metres, it’s also the tallest mountain in England. Every years, millions of people arrive at Scafell Pike to attempt the climb; the area is surrounded by campsites and local amenities servicing the eager climbers. If you have ever fancied giving it a go for yourself, then you’ll want to set aside an entire day for the endeavour-- most climbers find the walk takes them around five hours, from base to summit. We’re located around an hour’s drive from Scafell Pike, so you can conceivably manage the entire climb in a single day.
Along with these two geological marvels, a stay at Brooklands also places you in close range to The World of Beatrix Potter, a charming exhibition and gardens dedicated to the works of the eponymous author. Furthermore, if you’re a fan of poet William Wordsworth, you will love visiting his former home; the Dove Cottage and Wordsworth Museum, who showcase original manuscripts from the poet’s life, will delight you for hours on end. Enjoy a day out and then retire back to Brooklands to enjoy our family-friendly accommodation and escape the crowds; we only have five guest rooms at Brooklands, so you’re sure of peace and quiet.
When To Visit
As you might expect from a bed and breakfast near Windermere, our busiest time is during the summer. However, don’t dismiss the idea of visiting us during the colder months of the year. There’s an austere beauty to a usually-lush landscape that has fallen into dormancy, the majority of the main attractions are still open, and we of course will still be providing the best service possible.
